Visit a nearby village with survivors of the last volcano (I encourage everyone to bring useful gifts) Drive the gorgeous country road to the most beautiful Lake Atitlán (3 hours) with our own driver. Boat ride across the lake to our quaint Mayan-run hotel. We chose this hotel to support the Mayan community and it just happens to be right on the lake.
We’ll take a boat to several small villages including a beautiful artists’ community where women weave on back strap looms and artists paint and sell their art focused on Mayan life.
Optional you can choose to climb one of the several volcanoes at sunrise or you can choose to paddle across the lake on a canoe. You can choose both.
Visit a Mayan priest/priestess and learn how they created a Mayan rite that has been practiced for hundreds of years. Photos are not usually allowed but Sherrlyn has special relationships which will enable you to photograph too. Guatemala is one of the most amazing places on the earth. There are 22 Mayan languages still spoken and if you listen soon you’ll hear the music in their languages.
Shopping- there is plenty to buy. Everyone likes to take home Mayan-made art. There is plenty of free time to browse through the many Indian crafts. You’ll also be able to buy directly from the artists.
We return to Antigua and our hotel for the afternoon before our flights the next day. Pick up any stored luggage. Your transportation is arranged depending on your flight time back to Guatemala Airport.
Guatemala Activity Level - light to moderate there are plenty of options on this trip to customize from light to difficult. You can choose to hang out in the park plaza talking to the lovely children or get up early for a sunrise hike up a volcano.
